Why Proportion Matters in Custom Furniture

Proportion determines how furniture relates to the body, the architecture and the empty space around it.

01

Designed from the room outward

Custom furniture begins with context. Ceiling height, sight lines, circulation and the scale of adjacent objects all influence its dimensions.

A few centimetres can change an object from grounded to heavy, or from delicate to visually absent.

02

Balance without symmetry

Proportion is not a formula for symmetry. Offset supports, varied masses and controlled imbalance can create energy while preserving visual calm.

The aim is an object that feels resolved from every viewpoint and natural in use.

Good proportion is often felt before it is consciously understood.
